The Indianapolis Airport Authority's chief executive faces scrutiny in Florida over his work while director of the Jacksonville airport.

Jacksonville Airport Authority spokesman Michael Stewart confirmed Thursday that investigators subpoenaed calendars, time sheets and leave records for former airport chief John D. Clark III. The records date from January 2006.

Florida State Attorney Angela Corey declined to say why her office asked for the records.

Clark spent 14 years with the Jacksonville authority before moving to Indianapolis in March 2009. His spending on business trips drew scrutiny while he was in Florida. IBJ reported on the criticism surrounding Clark in a March 13, 2009 story shortly before he was approved for the Indianapolis job.

In a statement issued Thursday by the Indianapolis Airport Authority, Clark denied any unethical or illegal conduct.

"I’m not sure why the investigation is taking place," Clark said in the statement. "During my 14-year tenure with the Jacksonville Airport Authority, I acted in what I believe was the best interest of the authority and the citizens of Jacksonville. I have not, nor will I ever, engage in unethical or illegal business practices and believe I left Jacksonville with an airport system of which they can be proud.”
