The Kokomo-based division of Troy, Mich.-based Delphi plans to update its manufacturing and research equipment and build an engineering lab that will help consolidate its 1,400 employees in Howard County.
“It is impossible to underestimate the importance of job retention,” Kokomo development director Debra Cook said in a prepared release. “Delphi has been a part of our community for more than 70 years and this investment demonstrates that Delphi plans to be a part of Kokomo’s economic future.”
On Monday, the Kokomo Common Council approved almost $30 million in tax abatements for Delphi, according to the Kokomo Tribune, expanding on another tax break awarded earlier this year. In July, the company began making parts for electric vehicle batteries at another new facility there.
