Subscribe NowRegarding [Bill Benner’s] Butler comments in the April 18 issue, quite possibly the reason Clark Kellogg referred to the “unparalleled ineptitude” of Butler was, well, because it was both inept and unparalleled.
After all, no other team in the entire history of the NCAA championship game shot the ball so poorly. And watching paint dry would, in fact, have been more entertaining than watching glass fly everywhere as a result of the bricks being thrown at the basket.
As for Rory McIlroy blowing a four-stroke lead in the final round of Augusta, that was not unparalleled. Greg Norman lost a six–stroke lead in 1996. And it’s hard to imagine a more entertaining final round of the Masters.
Yes, the situations were treated differently, mainly because they were different situations. For you to imply that Jim Nantz and Clark Kellogg are unprofessional just because they didn’t treat your precious Butler Bulldogs the way you thought they should, well, that’s unprofessional.
Your columns are usually pretty good, but you missed this one as badly as Butler missed 81 percent of its shots.
