A recent feasibility study came out in favor of creating a small conference center with an adjoining hotel near Interstate
70 and State Road 267, the Hendricks County Convention and Visitors Bureau said.

The study found that planners nationwide have interest in a conference center there for two reasons: the new midfield terminal
at Indianapolis International Airport and expansion of the Indiana Convention Center downtown.

"Hendricks can fill the void in the market by offering conference and hotel space for smaller businesses and organizations,"
the HCCVB said in a press release.

The bureau already owns 10 acres in Plainfield near the interchange. In its press release, the bureau noted that the site
is
convenient to the airport terminal.

"Access and visibility of the site not only are important to visitors and planners, but will be important to potential
developers,"
the bureau said in the release.

The HCCVB said it’s actively seeking a private-sector development partner. At this stage, it’s seeking "requests for
expressions
of interest." The bureau said it will use any letters of interest it receives to develop a request for proposals.

The study, commissioned by the HCCVB, was conducted by Conventions, Sports & Leisure International, based in Wayzata,
Minn.
It surveyed more than 100 state and regional planners. The study’s authors predicted that Hendricks County would see $20.5
million a year in direct, indirect and induced spending because of a conference center.
