Unfortunately, despite broad bipartisan support, Indianapolis’ Republican state senators have been unwilling to allow a referendum that calls for a .02-percent income tax increase to initiate the transit plan. Because of rigid ideology, even giving the voters the choice of raising revenues is a non-starter for these senators.
This is a great shame. Unless Indianapolis’ own senators get on board with the future, we cannot expect anything but ambivalence from legislators from the rest of the state.
