A Fishers man has been charged with wire fraud in an alleged scheme to defraud area organizations and businesses of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Hrond Arman Gasparian, 67, was involved in two separate but related schemes, the U.S. Attorney’s office announced Friday afternoon.

Gasparian could face up to 20 years in federal prison and fines of up to $250,000 on each count if he is found guilty, the attorney's office said.

According to investigators, Gasparian defrauded the Bells Chapel Church in Indianapolis of $365,000 by telling them he was a broker for a “humanitarian fund” that could issue them a $3 million grant to be used to rebuild their church after it was destroyed by a fire.

Gasparian took the $365,000 payment as a refundable “commitment fee,” but never delivered the grant or a refund, officials say.

He is also accused of defrauding an unnamed Fishers construction company of $225,000 in a land financing scheme.
