A New York artist's mural will be featured on the north side of the Broad Ripple parking garage in an effort to promote more public art.
The selected piece, “Gateway” by artist Michelle Corollo, was unveiled by city officials Tuesday morning at the intersection of College and Broad Ripple avenues. (A rendering of the finished product is at right.)
The mural will be the first piece of art to be displayed as part of the Art2Art Trail. The trail is an arts and recreation path connecting the Indianapolis Museum of Art to the Indianapolis Art Center using the Central Canal towpath and the Monon Trail.
Art2Art is intended make the towpath more of a destination for art seekers, IBJ reported in June.
Keystone Realty Group, which developed the parking garage, will install the mural. Keystone hired the art center to issue a national call for entries for the mural. An independent jury evaluated more than 100 submissions.
The Art2Art concept emerged from Midtown Inc.’s master plan for neighborhoods north of 38th Street.
