A Phoenix-based trucking company plans to build a driving school on the land it bought in Plainfield where an off-airport parking firm once operated.

Knight Transportation Inc. paid Six Points Road Developers LLC, which operated Indy Park Ride & Fly, $4 million to buy the 35-acre site at 3875 Plainfield Road.

Indy Park, which opened in 1997, had more than 2,300 open-air spaces about a mile from Indianapolis International Airport.

The lot closed after competitor Cincinnati-based Fast Park opened a 1,955-space covered parking facility in Ameriplex near the airport in February 2014 and purchased Indy Park the following month.

Fast Park consolidated Indy Park Ride & Fly customers and employees over to the new facility on Stansted Drive, about three miles from Indy Park’s lot.

The Knight trucking company plans to convert the property into an industrial truck maintenance and dispatch facility, in addition to creating the truck-driving school, according to a Jan. 20 press release from the company’s real estate broker.

Knight declined to discuss details about its plans for the school.

Steve Tick of suburban Chicago-based CORFAC International represented Knight in the sale, along with Tom Cooler of the local CBRE office. Stephen Daum and Andrew Morris of Summit Realty Group represented the seller.
