IBJ Letters To The Editor

[In response to Mickey Maurer’s Oct. 19 column asking for Hoosier heroes] Jimmy O’Donnell, survivor, U.S.S. Indianapolis. He is approaching 90 years old.

He spent 35 years after the war on the Indianapolis Fire Department. Hehas been married 66 years, many kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.He is a regular speaker to schoolkids, and other groups. His message isto never quit, never give up.

His five-day ordeal in the shark-infested waters, following the sinking, is unimaginable. He is a Hoosier hero and a true patriot!
