A northeastern Indiana auto parts maker has laid off 130 workers after losing a contract.
Contech Castings spokesman Robert LaCourciere told kpcnews.com and The Journal Gazette that its Auburn plant laid
off about half of its work force Friday after losing the contract last week. He says the jobs paid $10 to $15 per hour.
The plant makes and machines die-cast aluminum parts, including steering components.
Indiana Department of Workforce Development spokesman Joe Frank said the department's rapid-response team has visited
the plant to help workers who are losing their jobs.
Southfield, Mich.-based Contech Castings has five plants, including another one in Indiana, in Pierceton.
