Home-sale agreements in the nine-county central Indiana region fell 12.2 percent in January compared to the same month in 2010, according to a report released Thursday by F.C. Tucker Co.

Sales agreements fell to 1,288 last month from 1,467 in January 2010. The decline marked the ninth straight month in which year-over-year sales slumped in central Indiana. The area experienced three straight months of improving sales activity early last year thanks to generous federal tax incentives.

In Marion County, January sale agreements fell 15.9 percent compared with the previous year, from 690 to 580.

Pending sales dropped 6.8 percent in January in Hamilton County, from 278 to 259, and 7 percent in Hendricks County, from 128 to 119. Sale agreements plummeted 28.5 percent in Johnson County, from 123 to 88.

The average sale price in central Indiana in January was $137,913, up 2.6 percent from a year ago, the report said.

Active listings dipped 2.7 percent, from 14,534 in January 2010 to 14,138 last month.
