Houston-based ExpressJet on Sept. 10 will begin four weekly flights to Branson on behalf of Branson AirExpress, the Indianapolis Airport Authority announced Wednesday morning. ExpressJet will use Embraer 145 aircraft that seat about 50 passengers.
One-way introductory fares are $59. The service will have connecting flights, through Branson, to cities such as Austin and Houston.
“Branson Airport’s research indicates that, on average, 200 people a day from the greater Indianapolis area are making an 8-hour-plus drive to Branson,” said Chris Matney, air service director for the airport authority.
He noted that Branson AirExpress has been growing into other markets such as Des Moines, Iowa; Nashville, Tenn.; Shreveport, La.; and Gulfport-Biloxi, Miss.
News that the airport would be making an announcement about a new carrier drew errant speculation that Las Vegas-based carrier Allegiant might be readying to begin service here.
