Subscribe NowIndianapolis attorney Joe Hogsett has received approval from the full Senate to be the next U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, becoming the top federal prosecutor for central and southern Indiana.
Senators voted to confirm his nomination late Wednesday, according to Sen. Evan Bayh's office in Washington, D.C.
President Barack Obama nominated Hogsett in July to fill the position, which covers the southern two-thirds of the state.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Indianapolis has been without a presidentially appointed U.S. attorney for more than two years.
Hogsett was Indiana's secretary of state from 1989 to 1994 and ran unsuccessfully for the Senate and state attorney general. He was a chief of staff for then-Gov. Evan Bayh and is a former state Democratic chairman.
