Indianapolis-based Slingshot SEO Inc. plans to expand operations in Indianapolis, adding 114 more employees by 2013, economic development executives announced Friday morning.

The Indianapolis-based company, which specializes in search-engine optimization, said it plans to spend more than $685,000 to expand in its current space at 8900 Keystone Crossing.

Slingshot, founded in 2006 by three friends from Zionsville High School, currently has 50 employees. Its client list include local companies The Finish Line, Interactive Intelligence and ExactTarget.

The company said it planned to begin hiring SEO consultants, software engineers, marketers and client managers immediately.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered Slingshot up to $1.15 million in performance-based tax credits based on the company's job-creation plans. The city of Indianapolis and Develop Indy will support property tax abatement for Slingshot before the Metropolitan Development Commission.

Search-engine optimization, or SEO, is a hot field in Internet marketing. Companies yearn to have their websites show up on the top of the first page on Google or other prominent search engines, and Slingshot shows them how to do it.

"Operating in Indiana is a significant competitive advantage for technology companies, especially those within the measured marketing space," said Kevin Bailey,  president and co-founder of Slingshot SEO, in a prepared statement. "Indiana's tech business environment is world-class, with a skilled work force, supportive business leaders, and growth-friendly policies. There's no better place to grow a business like Slingshot SEO."
