The Reppert Auction School, which has been training auctioneers for 90 years in northern Indiana, is relocating to Indianapolis following its purchase by a well-known father-daughter auctioneering team.

Melissa Davis and her father, Jack Christy, owner of Christy’s of Indiana Inc., one of the largest auction companies in the state, bought the Auburn-based Reppert Auction School from Dennis Kruse and his sons.

Terms of the deal, announced Monday, were not disclosed.

The school is considered the largest educator of auctioneers in the world. It has been featured on the Today show, and students have traveled from as far as South Africa to attend the school.

“This acquisition is an honor,” Jack Christy said in a prepared statement. “We are humbled by the opportunity to own a piece of Indiana history.”

Christy and Davis think they can increase enrollment at the school by relocating it to Indianapolis.

The next auctioneering course will be held from July 25 through Aug. 6 at the Christy’s location on the south side of Indianapolis at 6851 Madison Ave.

Auctioneering courses are typically held four times a year, with 25 to 30 instructors providing training.

Kruse, a state senator who co-founded famous auto auction house Kruse International, acquired the Reppert school in 1996.

Reppert was founded in Decatur in 1921 by Col. Fred Reppert, one of the country's best-known auctioneers during his lifetime.
