E.ON Climate & Renewables North America has reached a 20-year agreement with Fort Wayne-based utility Indiana Michigan Power to sell it power from the proposed Wildcat I wind farm.
The 17,000-acre wind farm is expected to generate about 200 megawatts of electricity, enough to power about 60,000 homes. The utility said the project will be connected to American Electric Power's transmission system, which will deliver the power to customers in Indiana and Michigan.
Construction is expected to begin by October or November, and the farm is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2012.
The agreement is subject to approval from regulators in both Indiana and Michigan.
Grant County has already approved a 10-year tax-abatement deal on the project. The developer is pursuing similar deals in Tipton County and Madison County.
