St. Vincent Health announced Thursday morning that it plans to create 200 jobs in Fishers by converting its Medical Center Northeast outpatient facility into a 40-bed inpatient hospital.

The 110,000-square-foot expansion of the center, at 13914 Southeastern Parkway near Olio Road, will include 30 medical/surgical beds and 10 medical observation beds, as well as 10 labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum rooms.

Development plans also include spa-like amenities, indoor and outdoor dining and 24-hour room service. In addition, a fitness center will be incorporated for hospital employees.

Construction is set to begin in September and should be completed by December 2012.

“The expansion of the medical center to include inpatient services will ensure our focus on women’s health and family health as the market continues to grow,” said Kevin Speer, St. Vincent’s system vice president and chief strategy officer.

St. Vincent opened Medical Center Northeast in 2008. It includes a free-standing emergency department, ambulatory surgery center, all-digital imaging center and a medical office building.

Hospital officials have applied for LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, certification for the facility.

The St. Louis-based Catholic hospital system operates 19 hospitals in Indiana and three more near Milwaukee.
