Allison reaches production milestone

Allison Transmission produced its 5,000th system for hybrid buses since 2001, the company announced.

The H 40/50 EP system, designed for city buses and coaches, is in use across North America and Europe and has accumulated 389 million miles, the company said. Every North American bus maker and five international manufacturers offer the hybrid system.

Allison is developing a family of hybrid products targeted for trucks. The first product, the H 3000, is expected to go into production in 2013. The second product, the H 4000, is expected to be available in 2014.
