The Senate voted unanimously Thursday to approve the bill creating a 16-member Indiana Career Council led by Gov. Mike Pence with government, education and business leaders. By December it's supposed to prepare a plan for matching the state's workforce training programs and available jobs.
Supporters say the council should help eliminate barriers and spread information about available training programs at a time when the state's jobless rate remains above 8 percent.
The House has approved a similar version of the bill. Representatives now will consider changes made by the Senate.
