The Madison County Council decided to table consideration of the Mounds Lake Commission. Advocates of the estimated $450 million project requested the delay until an environmental study is finished.
Some reservoir opponents told council members they believed the plans were moving too fast and that alternatives weren't being considered, The Herald Bulletin reported.
The new reservoir commission would be made up of 12 elected officials from the Madison and Delaware county governments along with Anderson, Chesterfield, Daleville and Yorktown.
Plans call for a dam on the White River in Anderson to create a 2,100-acre lake.
