Attorney Bryan Williams said Thursday that Elwood Mayor Ron Arnold would step down March 27. He was elected in 2011 and said last month he wouldn't seek a second term in the Madison County city about 40 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
Arnold was the focus of an Indiana State Police investigation into whether he had used campaign funds to pay for out-of-state trips and to cover utility bills. Records showed about $11,000 was spent on cellphone service and cable television, and another $1,400 was paid to hotels in Los Angeles, Kentucky and Tennessee.
Williams said no charges were filed, and Arnold has denied violating campaign spending laws.
