Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard has appointed Matthew Kimmick as city controller, the city announced Friday afternoon.

Kimmick, who starts the new job Monday, has been interim controller since October, when Jason Dudich left the role to become chief of staff.

“Matthew has exemplified great leadership during his time as interim controller, deputy controller and budget director,” Ballard said in a written statement. “His knowledge and expertise will be a great asset for the Office of Finance and Management and the City of Indianapolis.”

Kimmick joined the city staff in 2014 after nine years as a tax accountant for Ernst & Young LLP in Indianapolis and Dominion Resources Services Inc. in Virginia. Before that, he was a tax analyst at the Indiana State Budget Agency for three years.

He has a bachelor's degree in economics and finance from the University of Southern Indiana and an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University.
