The factory, mostly vacant since auto parts maker Visteon closed in 2007, was where Carbon Motors had planned to build high-tech police cars with 1,500 workers until its plans fell apart last year.
Connersville officials haven't named the new company, but Indianapolis attorney Rick Hall told the Palladium-Item that a Minnesota-based cabinet maker would spend $12 million on improvements and equipment at the factory.
Connersville's city council and redevelopment commission approved resolutions Monday night giving the company three months to decide whether to finalize the agreement.
Mayor Leonard Urban told the Connersville News-Examiner the company would have at least 309 workers at the factory in five years to buy it for $1.
