Energy provider Dominion Resources Inc. has acquired three solar-power development projects near Indianapolis from Minnesota-based Sunrise Energy Ventures.

The Richmond, Va.-based company said Monday that the projects are expected to be in service by the end of the year. They will generate 28.6 megawatts of electricity combined. The projects have 15-year power-purchase agreements with Indianapolis Power & Light Co.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Sunrise put a price tag of more than $50 million on the projects earlier this year when it sought zoning approvals and government funds to help develop them.

The three projects are known as Indy Solar I, Indy Solar II and Indy Solar III. Two of the projects are located 155 acres southeast of Indianapolis in Franklin Township. The third, located southwest of Indianapolis in Decatur Township, will be sited on 134 acres.

Engineering and construction firm AMEC will build the three facilities. The company also is building a 7.7-megawatt solar installation for Dominion near Augusta, Ga.

Dominion is one of the nation's largest producers and transporters of energy and serves retail customers in 15 states.
