A state official says General Motors could scuttle plans to sell an Indianapolis stamping plant marked for closing unless
a local union agrees to consider pay cuts.
Indiana Commerce Secretary Mitch Roob tells The Indianapolis Star that if the union doesn't budge this week
he worries GM's deal with JD Norman Industries of suburban Chicago for the 850-worker plant will fall through.
United Auto Workers regional director Maurice "Mo" Davison says local union leaders are against renegotiating wages
and benefits in the current contract. He says he's at "wit's end about what to do."
GM announced last year it planned to close the plant by October 2011.
Roob says workers might get GM jobs elsewhere, but that the factory's closing likely would be the end of those jobs in
Indianapolis.
