Incentives planned to boost Fort Wayne flights

Back to TopCommentsE-mailPrintBookmark and Share

The city of Fort Wayne is going to kick in up to $600,000 in incentives over two years for an airline to offer daily flights to an East Coast travel hub.

Negotiations are underway with United Airlines and American Airlines for twice-daily flights from Fort Wayne International Airport to either Newark, N.J., or Philadelphia.

Airport Authority director Scott Hinderman said the incentive payments will be reduced if the flights are full.

The Journal Gazette and The News-Sentinel reported that City Council members approved Tuesday night the city's contribution toward a $2.5 million incentive package. Others directing money to the package include Greater Fort Wayne Inc., the Airport Authority and the Indiana Economic Development Corp.

The Fort Wayne airport now offers nonstop daily flights to Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Atlanta and Dallas.

United also reached an agreement late last year to offer nonstop flights between Indianapolis and San Francisco in return for a maximum incentive of $1.5 million from the IEDC.

  • Not Out of Fort Wayne
My last flight out of Fort Wayne last year will be my last flight ever out of there. Not only did they force me into a pat-down even when I told them I was a breast cancer survivor, but their machine showed "suspicious spots" on BARE skin on my legs! But the young father with his family in line behind me had to suffer worse--he was chosen for a cavity search. Interestingly, my destination airport only had metal detectors. Like I said, I will NEVER fly out of Fort Wayne again.

  3. "This was a very localized, Indiana issue," he said. As in, Indiana failed to expand Medicaid to cover its poor citizens resulting in the loss of essential medical services, including this EMS company. Well done, Indiana GOP. Here are the real death panels: GOP state governments who refuse to expand Medicaid for political reasons.

  4. In the "one for all, all for none" socialist doctrine the sick die...this plus obama"care" equates to caucasian genocide plus pushed flight to cities thus further eroding the conservative base and the continualed spiral toward complete liberal/progressive/marxist America.

  5. There is a simple reason why WISH is not reporting on this story. LIN has others stations in different markets that are affiliated with CBS. Reporting about CBS blindsiding WISH/LIN due to CBS's greed and bullying tatics would risk any future negoations LIN will have with CBS in other markets.
