Organic food company with big plans cutting jobs

An organic food company that started operations in eastern Indiana two years ago with plans for hiring 1,000 workers now has about 200 employees after a round of layoffs this week.

Really Cool Foods laid off 31 full-time workers on Monday from its Cambridge City manufacturing and distribution center. Company spokesman Roger Harvey said the layoffs were needed because its holiday orders had been filled.

Harvey told the Palladium-Item that the company is optimistic about growth and adding employees during 2011.

Really Cool Foods opened its Cambridge City operations in 2008, saying it planned a $100 million investment and expected to hire 1,000 employees in a five- to seven-year period.

Harvey said that despite the layoffs, the company's sales remain strong.

  • Mitch Deal
this is typical of those Mitch deals to bring jobs. Thousands are to be employed and Mitch is there boasting what he has done. Reality only 200 employees. Convinced yet that Mitch and the GOP is all about Deception, lies and the big tax-payer paid incentives to businesses that contribute to the GOP?
