Indiana University has suspended a fraternity pending the outcome of an investigation into a fight between some of its members and members of a Jewish fraternity who say they were targeted with racist and anti-Semitic slurs.
The 43-year old woman has been charged in federal court with eight counts of wire fraud. “The evidence show that she stole over 800 separate cashier’s checks and money orders,” the indictment says, and deposited them into her own bank accounts.
The suspension became effective Friday and means the fraternity must cease all activities and disband.
The fraternity is at least the fourth national fraternity to close or suspend its IU chapter since the start of 2017.
The fraternity announced the suspension by its board of directors Wednesday following a joint investigation and consultation with IU officials.
