The Indiana Economic Development Corp. announced Friday morning that it plans to open an office in Zhejiang Province—its
second office in China and seventh international location overall.

The one-person office is expected “to actively sell the benefits of the Hoosier state to Chinese companies,”
the IEDC said.

Indiana’s existing China office, in Beijing, was established in 1987.

China is Indiana’s largest Asian trading partner. State export growth to the country rose from $294 million in 2004
to $930 million in 2008, according to the Indiana Business Research Center.

"Since my initial jobs trip last fall, evidence continues to show the opportunity for strengthened business ties is
ripe, so effective immediately we are doubling Hoosier representation in China," Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said in a
prepared statement. "Though the relationship is young, the dialogue with Chinese business prospects over the past eight
months has been continuous and I am very enthusiastic about advancing the economic discussions."
