Family Dollar plans 350 jobs in northeast Indiana

January 19, 2011

Family Dollar Stores Inc. said Wednesday morning that it will create up to 350 jobs in northeast Indiana by building an 815,000-square-foot distribution facility.

The North Carolina-based discount retailer plans to invest nearly $70 million to build the facility, which should be operational by spring 2012, in the town of Ashley north of Fort Wayne.

Family Dollar expects to begin hiring employees early next year.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered the company up to $2.1 million in performance-based tax credits and up to $200,000 in training grants based on its job-creation plans.

The distribution facility will be Family Dollar’s 10th such center nationwide. It operates 6,800 stores in 44 states.
