The Indiana War Memorials Commission will shut down the four fountains it maintains until water levels improve. That includes the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Monument Circle and fountains at University Park, Veterans Memorial Plaza and the USS Indianapolis monument along the downtown canal.
Officials tell WRTV-TV Channel 6 that each fountain will run for about one hour each day to maintain water quality.
The move is voluntary. The fountains are located on state property and are exempt from the city's watering ban that took effect Friday.
Indianapolis is experiencing its longest dry spell in more than a century.
