Gilchrist & Soames, a maker of luxury soaps and other fine toiletries used by hotels, has moved its headquarters from Indianapolis to nearby Plainfield and plans to add 40 full-time employees within six months, the company said Tuesday.

The company said its new headquarters at 2425 E. Perry Road, near Interstate 70 and State Road 267, contains 250,000 square feet of office, manufacturing and distribution space, compared with 145,000 square feet in its previous home at 1535 E. Naomi St., southeast of downtown. The added space will allow it to expand operations.

Gilchrist & Soames began making the move in late May and completed it in July. The company has 116 full-time employees and plans to add manufacturing, sales, marketing and operations positions.

Founded in London in 1975, Gilchrist & Soames was purchased in 1998 by Indianapolis-based E&A Industries, which sold the company in 2007 for $51 million to Swander Pace Capital, a San Francisco private-equity firm.
