Leaders of a central Indiana city are trying to persuade Nestle to pick it for a new production line that could add about 100 jobs.

The Anderson City Council on Thursday gave preliminary approval to a $14 million tax abatement request from Nestle on $166 million in new equipment that would be added to the company's plant along Interstate 69.

Nestle officials in Switzerland are considering a few U.S. sites for the new production line, the Herald Bulletin reported. Anderson plant manager April Blackmore said she isn't sure when a decision will be made.

City officials said the plant that opened in 2008 now has about 660 workers and has space for the new line without an expansion.

Nestle makes and distributes Nesquik and Coffee-Mate at the Anderson plant.
