As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowA Cummins Inc. official says the engine maker will keep its headquarters in the central Indiana city of Columbus despite looking for a larger office complex in Indianapolis.
Cummins spokesman Jon Mills said the company wants to consolidate its two offices in downtown Indianapolis where about 100 employees now work in areas such as communications, information technology and investor relations.
IBJ reported Sept. 21 that Indianapolis officials are trying to land Cummins as an anchor tenant for a second phase of redevelopment on the former home of Market Square Arena. The potential location is bounded by East Market Street, North New Jersey Street, North Alabama Street and a parking lot along Washington Street.
Mills told IBJ and The Republic that Cummins is committed to Columbus as its headquarters. Mills says CEO Tom Linebarger and other top executives have offices in Indianapolis but spend most of their time in Columbus.
The company has a lease until 2019 on an office building in the city about 40 miles south of Indianapolis.
Cummins has some 8,000 headquarters and factory workers in Columbus and nearby cities.
