Another of Mayor Greg Ballard's top staff members will depart after the New Year.

Communications Director Marc Lotter says he doesn't know yet where he will land. He'll be replaced on Jan. 5 by Jen Pittman, who is currently working for the Simon Youth Foundation but has worked for the city in the past.

Pittman was deputy director of the parks department and worked as marketing director in the mayor's office.

Lotter has worked as Ballard's communications director since November 2010. He said he decided to leave now so that new staff members would have a chance to lead the mayor's office through the 2015 state legislative session and Ballard's final state of the city address. Ballard has declined to run for reelection in 2015.

Lotter previously worked for former Gov. Mitch Daniels, both on his first campaign and as governor's spokesman. He also worked as communications director for John McCain's presidential campaign in Indiana.

Lotter said he's not necessarily looking to stay in politics. "I'm not going to limit my options right now," he said.

Other recent departures from Ballard's office include Chief of Staff Ryan Vaughn, who left in October to become president of the Indiana Sports Corp. Deputy Mayor Deron Kintner left in September and since has landed at local real estate developer Flaherty & Collins Properties.
