The city’s Regional Center hearing examiner on Thursday approved design plans for the $70 million Park at Pulliam Square apartment-and-retail project to be built on the former site of The Indianapolis Star headquarters.

“This is probably the most important site we’ve seen in a generation,” said Jeff York, a city planner, while providing comments about the design.

TWG Development LLC is set to begin construction on the project at 307 N. Pennsylvania St. in the fall and finish in spring 2018.

The nine-story building would feature 334 apartment units and 4,600 square feet of office space, in addition to 7,000 square feet of retail space at the corner of New York and Talbott streets, which would be marketed for a restaurant.

The project would serve as the second phase to TWG’s Pulliam Square mixed-use development built on part of the same block.

Indianapolis-based Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf is the architect on the project.
