The manufacturer of plastic packaging intends to invest $21 million on new infrastructure and equipment in the expansion at the four facilities, according to state economic development officials. They are located in downtown Evansville, at the Evansville Regional Airport, and in Princeton and Richmond.
The firm also expects to spend $10 million to transfer existing equipment from out-of-state operations to the four locations.
In November, the company announced that it would close five plants in a cost-cutting move, according to the Evansville Courier & Press. Three of the plants were in Houston; Kent, Wash.; and Alsip, Ill. The other two plant locations have not been reported.
Founded in 1967, Berry Plastics employs about 2,800 workers in Indiana and more than 15,000 worldwide. The firm is a major manufacturer of plastic packaging, including containers, bottles, prescription vials and trash bags.
In its 2013 fiscal year, it recorded $4.6 billion in sales.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered Berry up to $2.35 million in conditional tax credits and $300,000 in training grants based on the company’s job-creation plans.
