Brackett closes flagship Georgia Reese’s eatery on 86th Street

Former Indianapolis Colts linebacker Gary Brackett has closed his Georgia Reese’s Southern Table & Bar location on the northwest side.

Brackett, who opened the upscale soul food restaurant at 3454 W. 86th St. in August 2014, followed up less than a year later with a second Georgia Reese’s, located downtown at 14 E. Washington St. It remains open.

Brackett closed the northwest-side restaurant on Sunday and is selling the assets and liquor license for $195,000, according to an online listing.

Brackett didn’t immediately return phone calls seeking comment. A sign at the 86th Street location Tuesday evening said the restaurant was closed for remodeling.

Retail broker Hamada Ibrahim, who is listing the assets for Brackett, hopes to find another tenant for the vacated space soon.

“We’ve had a lot of interest,” he told IBJ. “It’s a big space.”

The listing boasts of the restaurant’s “great furnishings and décor, and state of the art kitchen.”

Eight years remain on the lease, according to the listing. The 6,800-square-foot space formerly was occupied by Outback Steakhouse and sits in a strip center to the east of Michigan Road.

Brackett, 35, was signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent from Rutgers University in 2003 and played nine seasons for the team.

Upon launching Georgia Reese’s, IBJ profiled the Camden, New Jersey, native and explored his aspirations to become a restaurateur.

He first bought an ownership stake in the local Stacked Pickle chain, which he ultimately acquired to become sole owner. It has seven Indianapolis metro area locations and an outpost in West Lafayette.

Georgia Reese’s is named for Brackett’s youngest daughter. He and his wife, Ragan, have two girls and a boy.
