What does the company do? QRS designs, develops and delivers quantum software. QRS created the U.S. Defense Department’s first operational quantum software and is working on additional quantum software applications.

What problem is it trying to solve? Some calculations are too complex to be computed on traditional high-performance computers. Quantum computing uses principles of physics to solve some of these extremely complex problems.

Latest news: QRS last year received a $2.5 million Phase III Small Business Technology Transfer contract from the U.S. Air Force to deliver the Defense Department’s first operational, production-level quantum computing software. The project helps the Air Force optimize its supply chain management. Then in January, the company received a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research contract from the Defense Logistics Agency to leverage artificial intelligence and quantum computing technologies to create the Product Obsolescence Prediction tool.

Why QRS made the list: So far, QRS is entirely self-funded and is on the cutting edge of quantum computing, which is expected to revolutionize a number of industries. And in part thanks to QRS’ work, Indiana is home to the Defense Department’s largest number of SBIR/STTR quantum software contracts.•
