Angie’s List has cut a deal to become the title sponsor of the Grand Prix of Indianapolis through 2016, and plans to help pack the stands with 5,000 of its own spectators.

The Indianapolis-based online consumer-review service announced the sponsorship on Tuesday, which will begin with the May 9 race next year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race, run on the 2.4-mile road track inside and including the Indy 500 oval, will be televised on ABC.

The Grand Prix debuted on May 3 this year as a kickoff event for month of May festivities at the track. Attendance was estimated between 25,000 and 40,000—respectable for a new event and close to organizer expectations, but not close to the hundreds of thousands who attend the Indy 500.

As part of the sponsorship, Angie’s List says it plans to host 5,000 of its “very best” service providers at the race as a reward for “playing an integral part in the company’s plan to revolutionize local customer service."

“Angie’s List has long sponsored race cars in the Indianapolis 500, but getting involved with the Grand Prix brings a new kind of excitement,” said Angie’s List Chief Marketing Officer Angie Hicks-Bowman. “This is a world-class race, and we’ll bring in world-class service companies, not just to reward them, but to work hand-in-hand to change the way local service is delivered.”

Users of Angie’s List describe and rate their experiences with hundreds of varieties of service providers, such as plumbers, painters, mechanics and doctors. The company now is offering to work more closely with service providers, acting as an intermediary to schedule customers' work.

Angie’s List spokeswoman Cheryl Reed declined to reveal the monetary value of the Grand Prix sponsorship.
