Directors of the Jamfest Cheer Super Nationals have signed a three-year extension that will keep the annual competition in the city through at least 2015, the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association said Thursday.

Jamfest is one of the city’s largest annual gatherings, attracting about 20,000 cheerleaders and spectators who account for nearly 5,000 hotel room nights and generate an estimated $8 million in direct visitor spending.

The competition has been a fixture in Indianapolis since 2003 and is held in January at the Indiana Convention Center. It already was signed through 2012.

“We feel that Indianapolis is the best ‘convention city’ there is in the cheerleading industry,” Jamfest co-owner Dan Kessler said in a prepared statement. “With the Circle Centre mall, the connected walkways and so many close restaurants and hotels, it is perfect for such a huge national championship event.”

The Jamfest Cheer Super Nationals are produced by Louisville-based Jamfest. It annually produces and directs more than 70 events nationwide.
