A Norwegian-based company has started work on making two-seat electric cars at its northern Indiana plant and expects the first ones to be finished in the coming days.

Think North America spokesman Brendan Prebo tells The Elkhart Truth that the company plans to roll out 300 cars from the plant before the end of the year. The company originally planned to start making cars at the Elkhart factory in early 2011.

Manufacturing director Karl Turner says the company hopes to make 2,000 to 3,000 vehicles next year.

Construction of the cars begins at a plant in Finland. Workers in Elkhart then install the lithium-ion battery, the motor and gearbox, the seats, headlights and other components. The company expects all the work to eventually be done in Elkhart.
