Charity fundraisers typically net 50 cents on the dollar, but Spotlight, a performing arts extravaganza to benefit the Indiana
AIDS Fund, topped that by a high margin.
Held May 2 at Clowes Memorial Hall, Randy Deer and Wayne Zink present Spotlight 2011 raised $430,000, and 93 percent of the
money will go to grantmaking, said Kathy Nagler, development director for the Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis. The
AIDS fund is part of the health foundation.
Grants will provide HIV and STD prevention, outreach and testing programs across the state of Indiana. Central Indiana grantees
include The Damien Center, Social Health Association of Indiana and the Indiana Latino Institute.
Spotlight featured 20 different arts groups and attracted 1,300 attendees. Performers and stagehands donated their time and
talent.
