Indiana county ready for fair after grandstands fire

Back to TopCommentsE-mailPrintBookmark and Share

Temporary metal bleachers have been built along a central Indiana fairgrounds track to replace the 133-year-old wooden grandstands destroyed in an arson last month.

Organizers of the Shelby County Fair say they're ready to put on the annual fair scheduled for July 2-7.

Fire investigators determined the May 19 fire was intentionally set at the fairgrounds in Shelbyville. No arrests have yet been made in the case.

Fair president David Rush told WISH-TV that the community has come together to support the fair and that all activities are on schedule.

Fair officials said the grandstand was one of few similar wooden structures left in the state and that a new grandstand won't be built of wood.
