Most Indiana House Democrats have resumed their legislative boycott, hours after a dispute in which a Republican committee chairman refused to allow consideration of any proposed changes to a divisive right-to-work bill.

Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma tried twice Tuesday afternoon to gavel the chamber into order, but the Democratic boycott left too few members present.

House Democratic leader Patrick Bauer is protesting the House labor committee's 8-5 party-line approval of the bill, saying Republicans wrongly prevented Democratic members from offering any amendments. Bosma said the committee acted properly and Democrats will be able to offer amendments later.

Bosma says the Democratic action wouldn't interfere with Tuesday night's State of the State speech by Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels in the House chamber. Bauer said he will attend the speech.

House Democrats boycotted the first three days of the General Assembly before returning temporarily Tuesday morning.

  • Response to Ron Paul
I agree with you...what would these Harvard and Yale grads do if the entire country stayed home on election day this year. None of them are doing their jobs, and the new ones elected will be the same ole entitled bickering babies! BOYCOTT ELECTION DAY
  • Response to "Park"
Hey Park, maybe they would be better off protecting you by going to work and discussing legislation that is going to make an economical impact...GAS PRICES and FREE LOADING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. This legislation protects us from money grubbing unions. I have been in the workforce for 21 years with no union...how is it fair that some have union protection and other do not! It should be the workers choice. Republicans are fighting for freedoms while dumbocrats are crying that some body disagrees with them. What would happen to you Park if you decided not to do your job, if you have one. Make yourselves useful dumocrats...go to work, and lower gas prices!!
  • FOX 59 News
Last night on the FOX 59 news, the reporters took the liberty to tell a story about one company in Oklahoma that left for Mexico after the "right to work" legisation was implemented. O-K Liberal news...how many UNION shops have left this country for Mexico prior to this legislsation becoming such a big deal? If all you can find in 25 states, that have adopted this legislation, is one stinken company that went to Mexico, which they probably already planned to, then that story was completly pandering to the democrates that should be fired and the union that should not even be concerned about this because they are so awesome. Thanks, FOX 59 for pointing out last night that your news stories are liberal supporting and bias.
  • $1000 per day fine?
    Rick --

I agree that a $100 per day fine is steep. I also don't know what the rules ays about who actually pays the fine. But... if I had to guess, I'll bet the unions will reimburse any legislator who gets fined. After all, it's the big out of state unions that are behind this protest anyway. It looks like most of the "working people" are being bussed in from out of state and are being paid by big labor to be there.

Too bad the democrats have become to beholden to them to tell them to go pound sand.
  • If They're So Great Won't Everyone Want to Pay the Dues???
They should all be ejected from office immediately if they refuse to do what the taxpayers elected them to do. I really don't understand the big uproar over whether the bill passes or not (it needs to in my opinion). If the union benefits are that fabulous then this is a non-issue to begin with because employees will flock to the union and gladly pay the dues in order to participate. If the lawmakers don't want to vote then let's make this a ballot referendum and let the citizens of Indiana speak to the issue. I think we all know what the answer will be either way which is why the dems are merely stalling. Completely unacceptable.....
  • Cowardice?
Bruce, regardless of your politics, you have to admit that subjecting yourself to a $1,000 fine per day is hardly cowardly.
  • Losers, losers
What a bunch of cowardly losers. What fine upstanding citizens we have managed to place in office. They all ought to be fired for not showing up to work!!! What a bunch of whimpering cry babies. If they cannot do their jobs, then resign.
  • Run from Your Responsibility
The next time a police officer attempts to stop you, just keep driving away. When you are finally stopped, tell the officer you are invoking your democratic right to run away from your responsibilities as a citizen. Explain that you are invoking the State Democrat Rule, which permits running from authority and responsibility. Then you can pray that someday we elect a Democrat to the Governor's Office, and you can receive a pardon from your extended stay in one of our better state run hotels for law breakers. Maybe they should arrest the Democrats.
  • Response to Park
Park, how is "not showing up to work" protecting you? It is just a stall tactic and the same unscrupulous tactics the union bosses use. It takes no courage to do this, as a matter of fact, it is the opposite of courage. It is cowardness.
It will protect those that don't want to support the agenda of the union bosses. Right now, you have no say and you're being uses as a puppet. Whatever they say, you must do or you are out! Stop being a slave!
This just gives you more say, but you don't see it. If the unions are doing a good job, then everyone will want to join them anyway. Don't be afraid!

    • Unions
The only people the Democrats are protecting are union workers. Maybe if people were paid what they were worth the work force would be a better place. Seems that the only thing unions are good for now is getting people overpaid for what they do. Starting with professional sports. Way to teach our young people to quit or don't show up for work if you're not going to get your way Democrats. Good role models.
    • Thank you, Dems
Thank you, Democrats, for doing exactly what I vote for you to do... protecting us hard working people from the onslaught of Republican policies that harm those of us who simply work hard for a living and believe in being recompensed with respect for our labors! God bless you all for your courage!
      • easy now
if the shoe were on the other foot, be assured the repubs would do the same. political posturing, that's all. all the same, you still need to show up to work...
      • Same garbage, different cans
Not showing up and fighting for those who put you in office is the ultimate form of cowardice. Today it's Dems, but I have little doubt that the Republicans would do the same. That's why I'm voting for neither. These people are playing games that put everything America stands for at risk. They deserve the karma that will eventually find them.
      • is this a joke
I should say Pat B is joke, running away every time they don't get their way - vote these bums out.

        1. Well, we could blame ABC because they haven't advertised the INDY 500....not during the HUGE TV rating shows like Dancing with the Stars (of which IICS driver Helio Castroneves is a former champion). He never won a CART championship, did he?

We could blame the new car...because it's ugly and has a V6 that has less horsepower than the pace car. CART (to my knowledge) never had that problem with cars they presented at the speedway years 1979 through 1995.

We could blame the fencepost, but that would be crass. Or maybe Danica? Or maybe Jean Alesi....or boost increases from constant rules tampering. Maybe we could blame Penske who still is winning everything as usual.

Maybe we can blame the world for not understanding the the great Indy gods who regularly twist things in such ways that we mere mortals must only accept, but never question.

So, it does beg the question....who is responsible if the series and Indy continues to flounder? Are the responsibilities so diffuse and complicated that no one really is to blame for it's fall from grace?

I urge the speedway to sign on for 7 more years of ABC coverage and 7 more years of NBC Sports Network coverage. It been win-win so far....*cough* *cough*

        2. "They're problem was thinking they were bigger than the institution that made their existence possible. That turned out to be a mistake."

The above quote made by Disciple shows his continued inability to grasp a simple concept: CART is dead. Twice. It provided a brilliant stage for some of the best open wheel racing in all the past century of racing. It's gone DOOD, get over it.

PLEASE explain, Mr. Disciple of INDYCAR, why you continually hammer home, even on the eve of the 2012 Indy 500, this same point...over and over? Seriously, why does the legacy of CART haunt you so much?

The same problems that affected the sport for over a century of AOW racing STILL affect it now. Your answers (or lack thereof) belittle the very sport you claim to love. Indy rots in your hands yet you request status quo. You negate salient points with drivel...always.

Indy is not going to die. But, it is dying...are you willing to accept that? "Indy is a hot mess"....it's true. Yet you want it that way? What is wrong with you?

        3. I just want to make sure I am reading this right - Wellpoint is eliminating 112 employees. Wellpoint is a customer of Repucare. Repucare is creating 82 jobs. I sure hope they are hiring Wellpoint employees. Does not make sense!

        4. Triscuts...love um!

        5. Of course the fair will go on. Don't you big city reporters understand county fairs? Get outside the beltway and see what life is really like!
