Indiana University said a record 7,600 first-year students are enrolled for the fall semester on its main campus in Bloomington.

It said 62 percent of the students are from Indiana. That's about three out of every five. The median high school grade-point average for all of the first-year students is 3.69 on a scale of 4.0.

IU said the Bloomington campus had nearly 42,000 undergrads, graduate students and professional students for the first day of classes Monday.

Monday also was the start of the fall semester at the IU campuses in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Kokomo. IU's other regional campuses begin classes next week.
