Eli Lilly and Co. said Monday it plans to give $12.4 million to the United Way, the largest single charitable donation in
the company’s history.
The gift, made up of contributions from Lilly's U.S. employees and retirees, plus a matching donation from the Lilly
Foundation, exceeds last year’s Lilly donation to the United Way by $100,000.
Indianapolis-based Lilly said the donation will go to the United Way of Central Indiana as well as other local United Ways
nationwide.
"I'm proud to lead a company whose employees are so incredibly dedicated to supporting the communities where we
live, work and serve patients," Lilly CEO John Lechleiter said in a prepared statement.
The local United Way in September announced a $40.8 million goal for its annual fundraising
campaign.
