William J. Thomas has been named president of the Better Business Bureau of Central Indiana, the organization announced Monday. 

He replaces Linda Carmody, who resigned in April after 16 years in charge of the organization. Philip J. Gibson, a former human resources director at Eli Lilly and Co., filled in on an interim basis until a permanent replacement could be found.

Thomas, 43, joins the BBB from Kosene and Kosene Development Co. in Indianapolis. There, he served as vice president of sales and marketing for Kosene and Kosene Residential Inc., a division of the company that develops upscale, urban condominiums primarily in the Indianapolis market.

Previously, he held various management positions during eight years at the former ATA Airlines, including director of sales and distribution, director of vacations sales and marketing, and director of strategic planning. He also was a senior business analyst at Indianapolis-based Accenture.

“Bill has a proven history of leading large-scale, customer-focused sales and marketing initiatives, and we're pleased to welcome him to the Better Business Bureau,” said Jeff McKinley, president of the BBB’s board of directors, in a prepared statement.

A graduate of Avon High School, Thomas earned an undergraduate degree in business administration from Valparaiso University and a master's degree in marketing from Indiana University.

The mission of the Better Business Bureau is to promote business integrity and ethics, build consumer confidence in the free enterprise system and encourage cooperation between business and consumers.
