The Madison Center in South Bend has notified state officials that 100 employees at the mental health facility will lose their jobs.

The job reductions are a result of a decision by the Indiana Department of Child Services to terminate its residential services contract with the center, according to a filing it submitted Wednesday to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

The contract expires Jan. 4 and affects employees in the center’s Children Residential Program and its Juvenile Justice Center.

“Due to the unforeseeable business circumstance of this recent decision by the Department of Child Services, Madison Center is giving the maximum notice available in this situation,” the center’s interim CEO, Kenneth Davis, wrote.

The facility is the designated community mental health center for St. Joseph County. It also has clinics in Elkhart, Fort Wayne, LaPorte, Michigan City, Plymouth and Portage.
