Local ad agency wins Scotts account

January 10, 2011

Indianapolis advertising agency Young & Laramore announced on Monday it has won the national ad account for Marysville, Ohio-based Scotts LawnService, a unit of lawn-and-garden products giant Scotts Miracle-Gro Co.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“This win is a testament to our growing national brand portfolio and our ability to serve clients with a unique, insight-driven approach that can be applied across any marketing channel,” Young & Laramore President Tom Denari said in a prepared statement.

Y&L will handle national advertising for Scotts LawnService, including radio, print, direct-mail and digital.

Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. has about 6,800 workers worldwide. It earned $204.1 million on $3.1 billion in revenue in its latest fiscal year.

With 46 employees, Y&L is the city's third-largest ad agency, according to IBJ statistics. It had local billings of $35.1 million in 2009.

The Scotts deal continues Y&L’s rebound from the loss of one of its biggest clients, Steak n Shake restaurants, in late 2008.

About a year ago, the agency recaptured the account of Columbus, Ohio-based Stanley Steemer, the nation’s largest flooring and upholstery cleaning company.

Y&L had the Stanley Steemer account from 2003 to 2005, when Stanley shifted its business to Dallas-based The Loomis Agency without a review. During its three-year run with Stanley Steemer, Y&L put together an award-winning campaign, including nabbing an Effie, one of the industry’s highest honors.

Other Y&L clients include Delta Faucet Co. and the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association.
